My name is Shelly Rau, 25 years old Israeli Atheist. For the past 2 years I've been an outspoken member of several political movements and communities promoting a secular government and society in Israel. For the past year I've been maintaining a YouTube channel and have been creating videos on topics related to the cause. I've been a call-screener and co-host in The Thinking Atheist podcast since July 2010.I was born to a secular family that conformed to the religious code expected in Israel. While holidays were celebrated to fit a certain standard and everyone was expected to attend religious ceremonies and events, asking questions was encouraged but many of them were never answered until I've reached my adolescence. It wasn't before the Internet that I could freely find the information I was looking for, find those like me, and declare myself Atheist.
My YouTube channel and blog were opened with the objective of informing about the different religious issues in Israel , and criticizing those issues in the process. Allowing a discussion and clarifying misconceptions, and uncovering and ridiculing Judaism from an Atheist perspective.
